Common Mistake Every Mechanic Makes

Common mistake every mechanic makes in their career and something you’re definitely going to want to double-check after you have had new tires installed on your car.

Many tires are directional and should only be mounted one way. Also, some tires aren’t directional but still have inner and outer labeling on the sidewall which needs to be followed. If you can read the outside label on the sidewall the tire is on correctly. If your tire read inside then the title needs to be dismounted and remounted.

You can also tell if a tire is a directional a lot of times just by looking at the V shape in the tread. V shape should always be pointed downwards when looking at the front of the tire. If it’s pointing up then your tire is mounted wrong.

There will also be a directional arrow on the sidewall of the tire telling me which direction it should be turning. I have seen just about every mechanic make this mistake at least once so as a customer it is always a good idea to double-check The Mechanics Work once you get your car back in your new tires installed.

My brother always brags about how good of a mechanic he is and you know what he did? He put some tires that are CLEARLY LABELED the wrong way on our father’s truck just last weekend. I happened to notice and helped him fix them. I get that this can be a common issue but if the tires are labeled, what really is the excuse? Lol

I recently took my car in to get new tires for winter as well as a standard check up on everything. I have been going to the same place for over 7 years now and never had an issue. When I was leaving the store the other day, I noticed someone looking at my tires. He told me that they were put on wrong and asked if I did them myself. I had no idea this was a common mistake. I contacted the garage and told them what happened and they said to bring it in tomorrow to have them switched around. I guess a new mechanic worked on my car that day. Thankfully someone noticed for me or I would have never known until it caused a problem!
