VW TDI P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire “Bad Camshaft”

In this video, we are working on a 2004 VW TDI with a cylinder 1 misfire and it has a check engine light on with a stored code P0301 P0302 P0304 P0305. After diagnosing the car and removing the valve cover we found the cylinder 1 camshaft lobe was completely worn done and the camshaft follower was almost worn through.

Also after further inspection, we found that all the camshaft bearing was bad.

After replacing the camshaft, bearing, and cam followers the misfire was gone a VW was running well again.

Pretty interesting find. I have not been working on cars very long myself so anytime I find something I would not expect to be causing an issue, it is a great feeling to have solved the problem. I am going to sub to the YouTube channel and share it around. Great work.

My wife has been driving around with a worn camshaft for God only knows how long! She kept insisting the car was fine and didn’t want to take it into a mechanic. I finally got her to take it in and good thing too, there were several problems and the cost is not cheap. It was risky for her to even be driving it. I am planning on just getting her a lease for Christmas. At this point, with my credit, it would be cheaper than fixing this thing.
